Biography
Michael Rennie (born Eric Alexander Rennie) was a British actor. He was born on 25 August 1909 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, and died on 10 June 1971 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Rennie began his career with a stand-in role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Secret Agent (1936). He gained stage experience in repertory theatre before appearing in British films such as I'll Be Your Sweetheart (1945). He moved to Hollywood in the early 1950s under contract to 20th Century-Fox.
He is known for his leading role as Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and for playing Peter in The Robe (1953) and its sequel Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954). Rennie also appeared in television series including Batman (1966) as the Sandman and Bonanza (1959).
