Biography
Michael Russell Gunn is a writer, producer and director. He wrote, directed and produced the 2026 historical drama The Brink of War, his feature directorial debut, which depicts the 1986 Reykjavík Summit between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
Gunn has worked extensively in television. His writing credits include episodes of Black Sails (2014), The Whispers (2015), Designated Survivor (2016), Billions (2016) and the miniseries Thai Cave Rescue (2022), on which he also served as creator and showrunner. He has produced on Designated Survivor, Black Sails and Thai Cave Rescue, and worked as a story editor on The Newsroom (2012).
