Michael Spierig, directing alongside Peter Spierig, is good at making physical danger felt. We are less persuaded by the extra complications in Fall 2: Deadpoint, where the climb needs fewer interruptions and more patience.

A plank walk on a Thai mountain is enough to make Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) uncomfortable without much assistance from the script. We flinched at the climbing because the effort of getting past a frightening obstacle gives the film all the suspense it needs. Michael Spierig shares the directing credit with Peter Spierig, his collaborator on every feature. This is capable thriller-making, but the brothers keep adding problems when staying with the one already in front of us would be more effective.
Their feature work began with Undead (2003), followed by the move into studio filmmaking with the vampire thriller Daybreakers (2009). Predestination (2014) gave their taste for intricate plotting a time-travel story. Then came the sequel Jigsaw (2017) and the haunted-house horror Winchester (2018). The subjects change, but science fiction, horror and thrillers remain their territory. They have frequently shared writing, producing and visual-effects duties as well as directing, so this is not a partnership confined to the set.
Their preference for practical effects and in-camera work makes sense for films that ask us to fear a physical predicament. They favour composed shots over handheld movement, giving the audience a chance to look rather than simply react. Yet a clear view of danger only does so much if the film keeps moving on. In Fall 2: Deadpoint, the Spierigs sometimes hurry to the next complication before the current one has become unbearable; we wanted longer with the obstacle and less business around it.
The personal conflicts are the greater nuisance. The climbers' troubles feel borrowed from the first film, and thin dialogue makes the interruptions harder to forgive. There is room for silliness here, but each new problem ought to make escape harder or the wait more uncomfortable. Too often it merely adds something else to explain, leaving us waiting for the film to get back to the climb. For those who enjoy height thrillers, Fall 2: Deadpoint warrants a qualified recommendation; go for the physical ordeal and make allowances for the conversations.
Biography
Michael Spierig is an Australian film director, screenwriter and producer, known collectively with his identical twin brother Peter as the Spierig Brothers. Born in Germany in 1976, he moved with his family to Australia as a child and later studied graphic design at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane.
The brothers began their careers making short films and directing commercials before their feature debut with the low-budget zombie comedy Undead (2003). They are best known for directing Daybreakers (2009), Predestination (2014), Jigsaw (2017) and Winchester (2018). Spierig directed Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) with his brother.
