Biography
Michael Starrbury is an American screenwriter and producer. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he moved to Minnesota as a teenager and is based in the Twin Cities area. He began his career writing short films and received multiple IFP/McKnight Artist Fellowships for Screenwriters.
Starrbury wrote the 2013 feature The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete. He created and wrote the Comedy Central series Legends of Chamberlain Heights (2016–2017), on which he also acted. His other credits include the teleplay for the When They See Us (2019) episode 'Part Four' and writing episodes of Colin in Black & White (2021).
He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series for his work on When They See Us. Starrbury has collaborated with Ava DuVernay on multiple Netflix projects and signed an overall deal with the streamer.
