Biography
Michael Wilding was an English stage, television and film actor. Born Michael Charles Gauntlett Wilding on 23 July 1912 in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, he trained as a commercial artist before entering the film industry in 1933 as an extra at a London studio.
He appeared in supporting roles in British films including In Which We Serve (1942) and gained prominence through a series of pictures made with Anna Neagle. Wilding also featured in two Alfred Hitchcock films, Under Capricorn (1949) as Hon. Charles Adare and Stage Fright (1950) as Det. Insp. Wilfried 'Ordinary' Smith, and later worked in Hollywood on titles such as The Egyptian (1954) and The World of Suzie Wong (1960). His final screen role was in Lady Caroline Lamb (1972). He died on 8 July 1979.
