Biography
Michalis Koutsogiannakis is a Greek-Swedish actor. Born on 22 November 1959 in Chania, Crete, he moved to Sweden in 1979. He studied sociology at Stockholm University and later theatre studies, training at Ingemar Lind’s Institutet för scenkonst in Italy in 1989. He has worked at theatres including Borås, Uppsala, Göteborgs and Malmö stadsteater, Riksteatern and Dramaten, and was a permanent ensemble member at Helsingborgs stadsteater from 2004.
Koutsogiannakis gained recognition for the role of Massoud in the television series Det nya landet (2000), for which he received a Guldbagge nomination for Best Actor. In 2009 he played Dragan Armanskij in the film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, reprising the part in the 2010 television series Millennium. Other screen credits include The Bridge (2011 and 2018), The Crown Jewels (2011), A Holy Mess (2015) and Betrayed (2020). In 2014 he was awarded Kvällspostens Thaliapris for his stage work.
