Biography
Mike de Leon (also credited as Miguel de Leon) was a Filipino film director, cinematographer, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Manila on 24 May 1947 and died on 28 August 2025. He studied at Ateneo de Manila University and the University of Heidelberg.
De Leon established the production company Cinema Artists Philippines in 1975. Its first film was Lino Brocka's Manila in the Claws of Light (1975), on which he served as producer and cinematographer. He went on to direct Itim (1976), Kung Mangarap Ka't Magising (1977), Kakabakaba Ka Ba? (1980), Kisapmata (1981), Batch '81 (1981), Sister Stella L. (1984), Bayaning 3rd World (2000) and Citizen Jake (2018). His films often addressed Philippine social and political themes. He was the grandson of Narcisa de Leon of LVN Pictures.
