Biography
Mike McMahan is an American comedy writer and television producer. Born in Chicago in 1981, he began his career in production at The Second City before working as a production assistant on shows including Drawn Together and South Park.
He served as a writer and producer on Rick and Morty from 2014, later becoming showrunner for its fourth season. McMahan created the animated series Solar Opposites, which premiered in 2020, and Star Trek: Lower Decks, which also began in 2020. He co-created the animated series Golden Axe with Joe Chandler; the show premiered on Paramount+ in 2026.
McMahan won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 2018 for his work on Rick and Morty. He is also the author of the 2015 parody book Warped: An Engaging Guide to the Never-Aired 8th Season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
