Biography
Mikey Schaefer is a cinematographer, photographer and climber. He began climbing at the age of 13 in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and moved to Yosemite Valley shortly after leaving high school. His photography work led him into filmmaking.
Schaefer was one of the directors of photography on the 2018 documentary Free Solo, in which he also appears as himself. He shared a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program for the film. His other credits include cinematography on the short The Gimp Monkeys (2012) and work on National Geographic productions.
