Biography
Mikkel Mathis Gaup is a Sámi Norwegian actor. Born on 16 January 1968 in Alta, Norway, he made his film debut in 1987 as Aigin in Pathfinder, directed by his uncle Nils Gaup. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
Gaup has appeared in films including The Miracle (1991), Breaking the Waves (1996) as Pits, and The Kautokeino Rebellion (2008) as Aslak Hætta. He has worked extensively in theatre with companies such as Beaivváš Sámi Teahter, Den Nationale Scene and Riksteatret. He has also performed and recorded joik, a traditional Sámi vocal style.
