Biography
Milburn Stone was an American actor. Born in Burrton, Kansas, he began performing in tent shows in 1919 and worked in vaudeville before appearing on Broadway in the 1930s. He moved to Los Angeles and built a film career with roles in pictures including Pickup on South Street (1953), in which he played Detective Winoki.
Stone is best known for portraying Doc (Dr Galen Adams) on the CBS series Gunsmoke (1955–1975), appearing in 604 episodes. His brother Joe wrote scripts for three episodes of the series. He received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama in 1968 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
