Biography
Millicent Martin is an English actress, singer and comedian. Born Millicent Mary Lillian Martin on 8 June 1934 in Romford, Essex, she trained at the Italia Conti Stage School and began her career in the chorus and on stage, including a Broadway debut in The Boy Friend (1954).
She rose to prominence in Britain as a performer on the BBC satirical series That Was the Week That Was (1962–63), for which she won a BAFTA Television Award in 1964, and starred in her own series Mainly Millicent (1964–66). Her film roles include Siddie in Alfie (1966), as well as appearances in Nothing But the Best (1964) and Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965).
Martin received Tony Award nominations for her Broadway work in Side by Side by Sondheim (1977) and King of Hearts (1978). She later appeared in recurring roles in American television series including Gertrude Moon in Frasier (2000–04) and Joan Margaret in Grace & Frankie (2017–22).
