Biography
Mischa Spoliansky (28 December 1898 – 28 June 1985) was a Russian-born composer who worked extensively in Germany before emigrating to Britain. Born in Białystok (then in the Russian Empire, now Poland) into a musical family, he received his early education in Dresden and Vienna, and later studied at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin.
From 1914 to 1933 he was active in Berlin's cabaret and theatre scene, composing for revues and collaborating with figures including Max Reinhardt and lyricist Marcellus Schiffer. Following the Nazi rise to power he moved to London with his family in 1933, where he became a film composer, scoring more than fifty productions. His credits include Sanders of the River (1935), King Solomon's Mines (1937 and 1950), The Happiest Days of Your Life (1950), North West Frontier (1959) and Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973).
