Biography
Mitch Torrel is a former United States Air Force Special Tactics Officer. He appeared as himself in the 2021 documentary film The Rescue, which chronicles the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand.
A 2014 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Torrel played ice hockey for the Falcons. He served on active duty from 2014 to 2024, including postings at Hurlburt Field, Florida; Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan; and Pope Army Airfield, North Carolina. In 2018 he was selected as the Department of Defense Operations Officer for the Thai cave rescue operation. Following the successful rescue, he was named Special Tactics Officer of the Year for 2019.
