Biography
Moidele Bickel (also credited as Bernadette Villard or Vilard) was a German costume designer. She was born on 6 March 1937 in Munich and died on 16 May 2016 in Berlin.
She began her career at the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt am Main. In 1970 she moved to Berlin, where she worked for 22 years on productions directed by Peter Stein at the Schaubühne. She also collaborated with directors including Patrice Chéreau, Luc Bondy and Robert Wilson on theatre and opera productions across Europe.
Her film credits include The Marquise of O (1976), for which she won a BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design; Germinal (1993) and Queen Margot (1994), both of which won César Awards; and The White Ribbon (2009), for which she received a German Film Award. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Queen Margot.
