Biography
Molly Lamont (1910–2001) was a South African-British actress. Born Margorie Edith Lamont in Boksburg, Transvaal, she won a beauty contest in her teens and moved to England, where she received a film test from British International Pictures. She began appearing in British films in 1930, initially in small and often uncredited roles.
Her parts grew larger by the mid-1930s. She later moved to Hollywood and secured a contract with RKO. Among her credits were the role of Barbara Vance in The Awful Truth (1937), Mary Livingstone in Mary of Scotland (1936), and supporting parts in The Suspect (1945) and Mr. Skeffington (1944). She retired from acting in 1951 after more than fifty films.
In 1938 she married aviation pioneer Edward Bellande; the couple remained together until his death in 1976. She later took part in local theatre companies.
