Biography
Monika Bauert is a German production designer, film architect and costume designer. Born on 31 December 1943 in Poznań (then Posen), she grew up in Wuppertal and trained at the local School of Arts and Crafts. She began her career as a stage and costume designer, working on more than eighty theatre productions in Ulm, Dortmund and Oberhausen, and toured South America with a Brecht/Weill production in the 1970s.
From the mid-1970s she moved into film and television, designing costumes for productions including The Odessa File (1974), Brass Target (1978) and Wolfgang Petersen’s Das Boot (1981). She later concentrated on production design, with credits including Manta, Manta (1991), Der bewegte Mann (1994) and Das Superweib (1996). Her archive is held by the Deutsche Kinemathek.
