Biography
Monty Norman (né Noserovitch) was a British composer, songwriter and singer. Born in Stepney, London, on 4 April 1928, he died on 11 July 2022.
He contributed songs and scores to West End musicals in the 1950s and 1960s, including adaptations such as Irma La Douce and Expresso Bongo. His film work included the score for The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960). He is best known for composing the "James Bond Theme", first heard in Dr. No (1962).
Norman won an Ivor Novello Award and an Olivier Award, and was nominated for a Tony Award. He successfully sued The Sunday Times for libel in 2001 over claims that John Barry had composed the Bond theme.
