Biography
Moon Sung-keun is a South Korean actor and politician. He was born on 28 May 1953 in Tokyo, Japan, the son of Rev. Moon Ik-hwan, a pro-democracy and pro-unification activist. After graduating from Sogang University with a degree in international business, he worked as a salaryman for eight years before beginning his acting career in theatre in 1985.
Moon made his film debut in 1990 in Black Republic, directed by Park Kwang-su. He is known for roles in films including Burning (2018), in which he played a lawyer, Forgotten (2017), Sea Fog (2014) and 1987: When the Day Comes (2017), as well as television series such as Vagabond (2019) and Moving (2023). He is a frequent collaborator with director Lee Chang-dong. Moon has received three Blue Dragon Film Awards for Best Actor, two Baeksang Arts Awards and two Chunsa Film Art Awards.
Moon began political activities in 2009 and served as temporary chairman of the Democratic United Party in 2012. Since then he has largely appeared in supporting or special roles in film and television.
