Biography

Mounia Akl is a Lebanese director and writer. Born on 29 June 1989 in Lebanon, she holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts and an MFA in directing from Columbia University.

She is known for her debut feature Costa Brava, Lebanon (2021), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Akl has directed episodes of the BBC series Boiling Point (2023) and The Responder (2024), as well as several short films including Submarine (2016). She splits her time between London and New York.
