Biography
Movita Castaneda, also credited as Movita, was an American actress of Mexican descent. Born Maria Luisa Castaneda in Nogales, Arizona, she began her career as a singer and dancer, making her film debut in Flying Down to Rio (1933).
She appeared in several films in the 1930s and 1940s, playing exotic or supporting roles, most notably as Tehani in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Other credits include Fort Apache (1948), The Hurricane (1937), Wagon Master (1950) and The Furies (1950). She later had a recurring role as Ana in the television series Knots Landing.
Castaneda was married to boxer Jack Doyle from 1939 to 1944 and to actor Marlon Brando from 1960 until the marriage was annulled in 1968; they had two children. She died in Los Angeles on 12 February 2015.
