Biography
Mowg, born Lee Sung-hyun in 1972 in South Korea, is a composer and musician of film scores. He adopted his professional name after peers in New York nicknamed him for his resemblance to Mowgli from The Jungle Book. He moved to New York in 1993, where he worked as a jazz bassist and session musician across genres before returning to Korea.
Mowg is known for his long collaboration with director Kim Jee-woon, beginning with the omnibus film Doomsday Book (2012). Their joint credits include I Saw the Devil (2010), The Last Stand (2013), The Age of Shadows (2016) and Cobweb (2023). He composed the score for Lee Chang-dong’s Burning (2018) and has worked on other notable films such as Silenced (2011), Peninsula (2020) and the series All of Us Are Dead (2022).
He has received multiple awards for his film music, including for I Saw the Devil, Masquerade (2012), Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013), The Age of Shadows and Burning.
