Biography

Nainita Desai is a British composer of film, television and video game music. Born and raised in London to Indian parents, she holds a degree in mathematics and studied sound design at the National Film and Television School. She began her career as a sound designer on feature films including Lessons of Darkness (1992), Backbeat (1994) and Death Machine (1995).

Desai is known for her scores to the documentaries For Sama (2019), American Murder: The Family Next Door (2020), The Reason I Jump (2020), 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible (2021) and The Deepest Breath (2023). She has also composed for video games including Telling Lies (2019) and Tales of Kenzera: Zau (2024). In 2016 she was named a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, and she won a Royal Television Society award for best original score for For Sama.
