Biography
Nan Schwartz is a composer, orchestrator, arranger and conductor. She composed music for the television series Cagney & Lacey (1982), including episodes and the 1995 television film Cagney & Lacey: Together Again (credited as Nan Mishkin). She also composed for In the Heat of the Night and several television movies, including Color Me Perfect (1996) and Prison of Secrets (1997), some under the name Nan Schwartz Mishkin.
Schwartz has worked extensively as an orchestrator on feature films such as It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (2002) and Playing with Fire (2019, as conductor). She has received a Grammy Award for her arrangements (including work for Natalie Cole) and seven Emmy nominations for composition. Her family background includes parents who were professional musicians associated with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey and Frank Sinatra.
