Biography
Nana Mensah is a Ghanaian-American actress, writer and director. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and attended the Loomis Chaffee School before earning a BA in French and sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. She moved to New York City in 2009 to pursue acting after working in the legal field.
Mensah is known for recurring roles in television series including 13 Reasons Why (2019–2020) as Amara Achola, New Amsterdam (2018–2019) as Dr Camila Candelario, The Chair (2021) as Yaz McKay, and The Diplomat (2023–) as Billie Appiah. She wrote, directed and starred in the feature film Queen of Glory (2021), which premiered at Tribeca. She has also appeared in films such as Beasts of No Nation (2015), Like Father (2018), The King of Staten Island (2020) and After Yang (2021).
Stage credits include a Broadway appearance in Jaja's African Hair Braiding (2023) and a role in The Fear of 13 (2024) at the Donmar Warehouse. In 2025 she was promoted to series regular for season 4 of The Diplomat.
