Biography
Naoki Matsuura (松浦 直紀) is a Japanese animation director, episode director and storyboard artist. Born in Tokyo in 1982, he graduated from the Department of Imaging Arts and Sciences at Musashino Art University in 2006. He began his career as a production assistant at studios including Polygon Pictures, Production I.G and ROBOT before becoming independent.
Matsuura has worked on numerous television series and films. He served as episode director on Attack on Titan (Final Season Part 2, 2022) and directed the full series Liar Liar (2023). Other credits include episode direction and storyboarding on Black Clover (2017), Plunderer (2020) and Recovery of an MMO Junkie (2017). He directed the feature SutoPuri Movie: Hajimari no Monogatari – Strawberry School Festival!!! (2024) and his original short film Hizukuri (2021). He is a member of the Japan Animation Association.
