Biography

Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, also credited as Naomi Foner and Naomi Achs, is an American screenwriter and director. She was born in Brooklyn, New York City.

She graduated with a BA in English from Barnard College and an MA in developmental psychology from Columbia University. Foner began her career in children's television, working on Sesame Street and as associate producer on The Electric Company.

She wrote the screenplays for Running on Empty (1988), for which she received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award, Losing Isaiah (1995) and Bee Season (2005). She made her directorial debut with Very Good Girls (2013). She is the mother of actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal.
