Biography
Naunton Wayne (born Henry Wayne Davies) was a Welsh character actor. Born in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, he was educated at Clifton College and changed his name by deed poll in 1933. He began in stage and music hall work before moving into film in the 1930s.
He is best known for playing Caldicott, one half of a pair of cricket-obsessed Englishmen, opposite Basil Radford as Charters. The characters first appeared in The Lady Vanishes (1938) and were repeated in Night Train to Munich (1940), Crook's Tour (1941), Millions Like Us (1943), Dead of Night (1945), It's Not Cricket (1949) and Passport to Pimlico (1949).
Wayne's other film roles include Obsession (1949) and The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953). He worked in film and on stage until the late 1960s and died in 1970.
