Biography
Neil Peng (Chinese: 馮光遠; also credited as Feng Guang Yuan and under the pen name 徐玖經) is a Taiwanese screenwriter, journalist and political activist. Born on 23 September 1953 in Sanchong District, Taipei County, he studied library science at Fu Jen Catholic University and mass communications at Fairfield University in the United States. He later worked as deputy editor-in-chief at the China Times.
Peng co-wrote the screenplay for Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet (1993) with Lee and James Schamus; the film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the trio shared the Golden Horse Award for Best Original Screenplay. He received a story credit on the 2025 remake. Peng has also written and directed The Candidate (1998) and has been active in Taiwan's anti-nuclear movement.
