Biography
Nellie Bly Baker (7 September 1893 – 12 October 1984) was an American actress who appeared in minor and supporting roles in silent films and early sound pictures. She worked initially as a stenographer and secretary at First National Pictures, where she was employed by Charles Chaplin, before being cast in his productions.
Baker played the slum nurse (uncredited) in Chaplin’s The Kid (1921) and a masseuse (uncredited) in A Woman of Paris (1923). Over the next decade she appeared in around a dozen further films for studios including First National, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Warner Brothers, among them The Goldfish (1924), The Red Kimono (1925) and Breakfast at Sunrise (1927). She is sometimes confused with the journalist Nellie Bly.
