Biography
Nicholas Clay was an English actor. Born in Streatham, London, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career in the early 1960s with television and stage roles.
He was a principal player in Laurence Olivier’s Old Vic company during the 1970s, appearing in productions including The Misanthrope. Clay is best known for his film roles as Lancelot in Excalibur (1981), Oliver Mellors in Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1981) and Patrick Redfern in Evil Under the Sun (1982). Other credits include Zulu Dawn (1979) and television appearances in Highlander: The Series (1992) and Merlin (1998).
He married actress Lorna Heilbron in 1980. In later years he taught drama at the Actors’ Centre and the Academy of Live and Performing Arts. Clay died in London in 2000.
