Biography
Nicholas Joy (1884–1964) was a British actor of French birth. He trained at RADA and made his stage debut in 1910. He had a long career on Broadway, appearing in original productions of plays including The Philadelphia Story (1939), The Iceman Cometh (1946) and Topaze (1930).
Joy appeared in numerous films from the 1940s onwards. He is credited as Dr. Craigie in Gentleman's Agreement (1947), Mr. McCormick in The Naked City (1948), Regnault de Chartres in Joan of Arc (1948), Amos Strickland in Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff (1949) and Mr. Azae in Desk Set (1957). He also wrote the original screenplay for New Wine (1941). He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
