Biography
Nick Dear is an English playwright and screenwriter. Born in Portsmouth in 1955, he graduated from the University of Essex in 1977 with a degree in Comparative European Literature. He began his career writing for BBC Radio and the stage before achieving recognition with his 1986 play The Art of Success for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Dear is known for his screen adaptations, including the BAFTA-winning Persuasion (1995) and six episodes of the ITV series Agatha Christie's Poirot (2004–2013). His stage adaptation of Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle for the National Theatre in 2011, was broadcast as National Theatre Live: Frankenstein. Other credits include Byron (2003), Eroica (2003) and a story contribution to Lewis (2007).
