Biography
Nick Payne is a British playwright and screenwriter. Born in 1984, he studied at the University of York and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and graduated from the Royal Court Young Writers' Programme.
His plays include If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet (2009) and Constellations (2012), the latter of which transferred to the West End and made his Broadway debut in 2015. Elegy (2016) earned him a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best New Play. He returned to Broadway with Sea Wall/A Life (2019).
On screen, Payne created and wrote the BBC One series Wanderlust (2018). He wrote the screenplays for The Sense of an Ending (2017) and co-wrote The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021). His original screenplay We Live in Time (2024) was directed by John Crowley.
