Biography
Nick Stewart (1910–2000) was an American actor. He appeared as Dink Franklin in the 1954 film Carmen Jones and voiced Br'er Bear in the 1946 Disney film Song of the South. He was also known for playing Lightnin' (Willie Jefferson) in the television series The Amos 'n' Andy Show.
Born Horace Winfred Stewart in New York City, he began his career as a dancer at the Cotton Club and Hoofers Club. He created the comedic character Nicodemus for Broadway productions including Swingin' the Dream and Louisiana Purchase, and appeared in the 1936 film Go West, Young Man. He later performed on radio, including the Rudy Vallée show.
With his wife Edna, Stewart founded the Ebony Showcase Theatre in Los Angeles, which operated for decades and provided opportunities for Black performers. He died in Los Angeles in 2000.
