Biography
Nigel Patrick (born Nigel Dennis Patrick Wemyss-Gorman) was an English actor and stage director. Born in Clapham, London, on 2 May 1912 into a theatrical family, he made his professional stage debut in The Life Machine at the Regent Theatre in 1932. He appeared in numerous West End productions, including the long-running George and Margaret (1937).
His film career began with Mrs. Pym of Scotland Yard (1940). After service in the Second World War, where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, he returned to the stage and screen. Notable film roles include Stephen Cameron in Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951), Frank Hunter in The Browning Version (1951), Tony Garthwaite in The Sound Barrier (1952), Race in The League of Gentlemen (1960), and Superintendent Robert Hazard in Sapphire (1959). He also directed films such as Johnny Nobody (1961). Patrick was married to actress Beatrice Campbell from 1951 until her death in 1979. He died in London on 21 September 1981.
