Biography
Nikolaus Summerer is a German cinematographer. Born in Munich in 1971, he initially studied business administration in Regensburg before undertaking film technology internships and training as a camera technician. He later studied at the University of Television and Film Munich and has worked as a director of photography since 2004.
Summerer has collaborated repeatedly with director Baran bo Odar. Their credits together include the feature Who Am I (2014) and the Netflix series Dark (2017–2020) and 1899 (2022). Other notable work encompasses The Silence (2010), The Siege of Jadotville (2016) and Dune: Prophecy (2024).
He received the German Camera Award for Who Am I and an award from the German Academy for Television for his work on Dark.
