Biography
Noel Black (1937–2014) was an American film and television director, screenwriter and producer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he graduated from UCLA with bachelor's and master's degrees in film.
Black wrote and directed the 1965 short Skaterdater, which won the Palme d'Or for best short film at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. He made his feature debut with the 1968 cult black comedy Pretty Poison, starring Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld.
Thereafter he worked primarily in television, directing episodes of series including Kojak (1977), Quincy, M.E., McCloud, Hawaii Five-O and The Twilight Zone (1985). He also directed features such as Private School (1983). His son Marco Black works in the film industry as a director and unit production manager.
