Biography
Ólafur Arnalds is an Icelandic composer, multi-instrumentalist and music producer born on 3 November 1986 in Mosfellsbær. He began his career playing drums in hardcore punk and metal bands before composing piano and string pieces for the German metal band Heaven Shall Burn, which led to his work in contemporary classical and electronic music.
Arnalds is known for his film and television scores, including the music for the ITV series Broadchurch (2013), for which he received the 2014 BAFTA TV Craft Award for Best Original Music. Other credits include Defending Jacob (2020), Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams (2017) and Surface (2022). He is a member of the electronic duo Kiasmos and his cousin Ólöf Arnalds is a singer-songwriter.
