Biography

Oleg Yanchenko was a Russian composer and organist. He composed the original score for Elem Klimov’s film Come and See (1985), on which he is also credited as conductor.

He trained at the Moscow Conservatory in piano, organ and composition. Yanchenko wrote music for around 27 feature films and television productions, including People on the Swamp (1982). He received the USSR State Prize in 1984 for the latter and the All-Union Film Festival prize for best film music in 1986 for Come and See. His concert works include six symphonies and several operas and ballets. He was named People’s Artist of the Russian Federation in 1997.
