Biography
Oliver H. P. Garrett was an American screenwriter, film director and former newspaperman. Born on 6 May 1894 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he worked for newspapers in Boston and New York before moving to Hollywood in 1927.
He wrote screenplays for numerous films, including Night Nurse (1931), A Farewell to Arms (1932, with Benjamin Glazer), Manhattan Melodrama (1934), The Hurricane (1937), Dead Reckoning (1946) and Duel in the Sun (1946). He also contributed to the final script of Gone with the Wind (1939) and directed Careful, Soft Shoulders (1942). Garrett was a founding member and two-term vice-president of the Screen Writers Guild.
He died on 22 February 1952 in New York City.
