Biography
Óliver Laxe is a French-born Galician film director and screenwriter. Born in Paris in 1982 to Galician parents, he studied filmmaking at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona before moving to Morocco, where he established a film workshop for children.
His debut feature You All Are Captains (2010) premiered in the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI Prize. He followed this with Mimosas (2016) and Fire Will Come (2019), the latter selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes where it received the Jury Prize.
Laxe directed and co-wrote Sirāt (2025), which premiered in competition at Cannes and won the Jury Prize. The film was nominated for the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.
