Biography
Oreste Biancoli was an Italian screenwriter and film director. He contributed to more than 90 films as a writer between 1930 and 1964, and directed nine films between 1938 and 1952.
Born in Bologna, he studied law and worked as a journalist before collaborating with Dino Falconi on stage comedies. He entered the film industry soon after the advent of sound and later assumed artistic leadership of Scalera Films during the Second World War. He continued to write fiction, reviews and plays throughout his career.
His most renowned screen credit is the screenplay for Bicycle Thieves (1948), directed by Vittorio De Sica. Other notable works include Erik the Conqueror (1961) and The Ghost (1963), the latter credited under the pseudonym Robert Davidson.
