Biography
Óscar Dancigers (1902–1976) was a Russian-born Mexican film producer. Born in Moscow, he worked in Germany in the 1930s and then in France for Ciné-Alliance before fleeing Nazi persecution in 1940 and settling in Mexico, where he became a prominent producer during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.
He produced many of Luis Buñuel's early Mexican films, including The Young and the Damned (1950), Él (1953), Robinson Crusoe (1954), Death in the Garden (1956) and Viva Maria! (1965). Other credits include The Pearl (1947) and The Great Madcap (1949). He was also the first producer on Orson Welles's unfinished Don Quixote project.
Dancigers received Ariel awards for best film for The Pearl (1947), The Young and the Damned (1950) and Robinson Crusoe (1955). His brother Georges Dancigers was also a film producer.
