Biography
Osvaldo Noé Golijov is an Argentine composer of classical music and a music professor. He was born on 5 December 1960 in La Plata, Argentina.
He studied piano and composition in Argentina before emigrating to Israel in 1983, where he continued his studies in Jerusalem. He later moved to the United States and earned a PhD in composition from the University of Pennsylvania, studying with George Crumb. Since 1991 he has taught at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he is Loyola Professor of Music.
Golijov has composed scores for several films by Francis Ford Coppola, including The Man Who Cried (2000), Youth Without Youth (2007), Tetro (2009), Twixt (2011) and Megalopolis (2024). He has also written concert works such as the opera Ainadamar and La Pasión según San Marcos. He received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2003.
