Biography
Otto Heller (also credited as Ota Heller) was a Czech cinematographer who worked primarily in the United Kingdom. Born in Prague, he began his career as a projectionist before serving as a military cameraman during the First World War. He worked in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s and later across Europe before settling in Britain in 1940; he became a British citizen in 1945.
Heller photographed more than 200 films. His credits include The Queen of Spades (1949), The Ladykillers (1955), Richard III (1955), Peeping Tom (1960), Victim (1961), The Ipcress File (1965) and Alfie (1966). He won the BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for The Ipcress File and received a nomination for Alfie.
