Biography
Patricia Hayes was an English character actress. Born Patricia Lawlor Hayes on 22 December 1909 in Streatham, London, she trained at RADA, graduating in 1928, and spent the following decade in repertory theatre before moving into radio and television.
She appeared in numerous comedy series including The Benny Hill Show and Till Death Us Do Part, and played the title role in the Play for Today drama Edna, the Inebriate Woman (1971), for which she received the BAFTA Television Award for Best Actress. Her film roles included Urgl in The NeverEnding Story (1984), Raziel in Willow (1988) and Mrs. Coady in A Fish Called Wanda (1988). She was awarded the OBE in 1987 for services to drama and continued acting until the mid-1990s.
