Biography

Patricia Resnick is an American screenwriter and producer. Born on 9 February 1953 in Miami, Florida, she studied at the University of Southern California, where she met director Robert Altman. She began her career working with him on 3 Women (1977, uncredited) and A Wedding (1978).

Resnick is best known for writing the screenplay for 9 to 5 (1980). Her other film credits include Quintet (1979), Straight Talk (1992) and Maxie (1985). She has written episodes of television series including Better Things (2016) and Tales of the City (2019), and served as a producer on Mad Men and Better Things. She wrote the book for the stage musical 9 to 5 and received a Tony nomination for it. She appeared as herself in Altman’s The Player (1992).
