Biography

Patrick Campbell (1913–1980) was an Irish writer, journalist and television personality. Born in Dublin and educated at Pembroke College, Oxford, he served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War before working for the Irish Times under the pseudonym 'Quidnunc', the Sunday Dispatch and the Sunday Times.

He wrote humorous books including Life in Thin Slices (1954) and How to Become a Scratch Golfer (1963). His television writing credits include an episode of the series The Avengers (1961), as well as work on Ghost Squad (1961), Ask Mr. Pastry (1961) and other series. He appeared regularly as a team captain on the panel game Call My Bluff (from 1965), known for his wit despite a pronounced stutter, and was styled Lord Glenavy.
