Biography
Patrick Harkins is a British television director. He began his career in the art department and as a propman on films including works by Danny Boyle, Terence Davies, Derek Jarman and Bill Forsyth. While working on the 1990 film Life Is Sweet, Mike Leigh encouraged him to pursue directing. He made award-winning short films before directing his first feature, The Final Curtain (2002), starring Peter O’Toole.
Harkins has directed numerous British television series. His credits include multiple episodes of Taggart (2003–2010), River City (2010–2017), Waterloo Road (2013–2015), Hollyoaks (2014–2019), The A List (2018), Tin Star (2020), Guilt (2021–2023) and the opening episodes of Happy Valley series 3 (2023).
He directed all six episodes of the second series of The Gold (2025) for the BBC. Harkins received a nomination at the RTS Scotland Awards for his work on the series.
